"The bone forest was full with soldiers checking weapons and adjusting kit. the stark white poles that used to be trees clashed with the sand blowing around. less than a mile ahead the enemy camp seemed to be stirring with the dawn. to the left of the line the soldiers made the same preparations as everyone else but were also casting glances to the large group of "men" next on the flank.
The primitive humanoids native to the northern continent had suffered more than anyone else from the constant battles being fought and the tyranny of the Ork. It was natural that eventually they would side with the Imperial forces, especially as after research by the Terran scribes found that they were not actually xenos, but decended from a small Earth ship that had crashed tens of thousands of years ago and were therefore Abhuman and were under provisional Sanction.
Small squads had been shaped into something like a military unit, and were given arms and equipment and human advisors to lead the squads.
suddenly at the very end of the line a roar went up, and shots echoed through the spindly forest. A large Ork team had infiltrated the column and ambushed a heavy weapon platoon on the flank. The only thing between the huge Orks and the main body of men was the fifty or so troops of the Native Militia.
Many of the Orks just turned and ran... the lucky ones got quite far. "what do you get a genius fat man, a stupid corporation and internet plagiarism? these.
with no official Penal Legion troops I made my own from some awesome-o Ungors and inspiration from the net. However I was also very sad to see the concept used in white dwarf.
fully painted in the new scheme.
WHAT YOU DO IS...
you cut the ungors off at the waist, VERY carefully, then stick a standard cadian torso on top, with the lasgun arms. I used the armour-less torsos because I had lots spare, so essentially these were "free".
