"The unwritten rule is, if its on the outside of the wagon, or on the sides or whaever, it needs fair game. at the front line you can't haggle over manifests and dockets. each Ram is loaded with the right supplies for each drop point, it is stripped bare like a carcass in a vulture pen, then turns around on its merry way.
you have to keep your personal kit waaaaay down in the cab. locked. twice."
Cpl. A Diggle, 349th AF(R) Supply Corps"We aint never e'en got near the weight capacity on a Ram. think about it, on a normal Chimera y' got the upper hull armour, the turret, a big heavy hydraulic back 'atch and twelve guys and all their kit. we just a stripped down wagon!"
Unknown trooper, 349th AF(R) Supply Corps"We needed to make sure the right supplies were getting to the right spot, on the SECOND they were needed. of course it never works like that but we came close. The best thing we did was the CRAtE system, Combat, Resupply, Arms and Essentials. 24 hour rations for 10 men, 30 las charges, a med kit, 10 pairs of socks, 5 grenades and a few other sundries were all crammed in to a standard sized crate. That gave us our base- each squad needed one of these every 24 hours. everything else was a bonus."
Capt. B Bowder, 349th AF(R) Supply Corps99-51 was restored to full service and its crew honoured after the Siege of DROPS Village 306331. it was the last Ram to arrive at the ill-fated depot before the horizon was darkend by a large section of WAAAGH! Snaggletoof. as the days progressed and the defenders gradually fell further back into the compound 99-51 becam the final redoubt. its storage bay was bristleing with heavy stubbers and men stood on crates of ammunition to fire over its sides. It was home to the final 14 defenders for nine days until the siege was lifted. it was estimated the hull heavy bolter fired in excess of one million rounds during the defence, and its barrel was deformed to almost twice normal size and black with heat stress.
Ram carriers are all based on the Chimera chassis with extra stong track guards, each capable of carrying upto a tonne of supplies in crates. this does not include the two large barrel hardpoints at the rear. the open area is able to transport around 30 CRAtE's, or 8 extra-large fuel drums. It is usual for extra rucksacs containing food, specialist munitions, explosives and other essentialls to be strapped to the exterior, and these are often plucked away by the more veteran troopers.this has been a long project, basicly because i took a month+ out of the hobby. i spent ages collecting the right bits and extras. the large crate is a railway piece, the CRAtEs in the laod bay are from some supplier or other, in resin. its the same guy that did the blast walls i gave mort.
the look i wanted to go for is from an old Cadte book i read twenty years or so ago- somethin like not being a "christmas tree on the march". well i deliberately set about making it as busy as possble. the only thing i sort of regret re the two hunter killer missles, but then they are needed to bring a bit of the 40k Krazy to the model.
anyway- enjoy. I am well happy with this one.
