Old Rhino - HQ transport

I've recently and unintentionally found an old 2nd hand Rhino, in a comics shop, during my nerdy pilgrimages to Italian conventions, it really was a lucky strike!
I've choose to paint it with the Chaplain color scheme, and I proudly elect it my new HQ transport.
(The classic blue Ultramarine style doesn't work for this model in my army, it should have been too strange near the other new Rhinos models!)

Step 1. Completed the assembly and rebuilt the missing handle of the top door with a clip and two small plastic cylinders.

Step 2. Undercoated with Black, drybrushed with Boltgun Metal, washed with Badab Black and rewashed with very very diluted Chaos black.

Step 3. All the metal parts were painted with Mithril Silver, washed with Badab Black and drybrushed with Mithril Silver again.

Step 4. All the golden parts were painted with Shining Gold and washed with Gryphonne Sepia. The tracks were painted with Mithril Silver, washed with Gryphonne and drybrushed with Boltgun Metal. Headlights with Bubonic Brown and extreme highlights with Mithril Silver + Skull White.

^The complete paintjob with decals and transparent spray.

Very nicely done. The edge highlighting looks perfect. I love the old rhino, there's just some charm to it that the new model lacks.

I agree, the new Rhino has lots of details and (we must be honest) is a great model, objectively superior than the old one, but the old Rhino is still amazing because it has the same charm a vintage car could have.

Re: Old Rhino - HQ transport

For me the appeal of the classic Rhino kit is the number of diffident ways it can be assembled from just a few basic parts - it one of the most versatile kits GW have ever done

as you know, im not really fussed about tanks- they are for guys with tiny penises.

but this one looks damn sweet. i like the fact its recycled and reborn, and I totally agree that doing it a different colour makes it work better. thats why i think my command Chimera (bronze) and my Vulture (black) look good with my other models.

as for the Rhino- it was the first plastic vehicle GW did i think? and yes it is a cool looking model, but i much prefer the new one. the one i used on my Retributor was a drem to throw together, even with the FW kit. i like the slab front and the windows that sort of remind me of the shuttle on battlestar Galactica. (propper version).

but LOVE this one Marco, and I dream of finding old models in geekshops left behind by years!

Thanks dude! As we know people with "Marc" in their name always have great ideas. Yes now I remember your Vulture, but not the Chimera... I will re-take a look!
