So as I mentioned in the SC vs SH thread, I have acquired a full copy of Space Crusade and have been having a weekly game night with a few friends. I thought I would post up some pictures and war stories so as to inspire some of you to dust off this old classic and give it another run!
We have been playing with a group of about 7 people, with no more than 3 per game so far (but hopefully that will change soon - I say this every week, but I have 6 people keen for next week's game!) so I have made copies of the cards and bought a few extra marines from ebay if we need them. We are playing through the campaign but we seem to be skipping missions so tonight we played Mission 10 although it was really only the 6th or so game. Mission 10 Teams: 2 x Blood Angels, 1 x Alien This started out bad because the guy who was playing the Alien this week I had fought alongside last week, and right before my Commander stepped off the board I thought it might be funny to take a swipe at him with my powersword. I didn't kill him, but he certainly came out fighting this week! I started out ok, took out some early chaos marines and orcs and it was looking good for my heavy weapons-filled team, especially because the Primary Mission was to destroy the reactor room by FIRING and scoring a 3 or more. I had all equipment cards and 2 order cards, so I was set. The other guy wasn't so lucky. He had chosen to take an assault cannon and 3 Bolters all with targeters (re-roll one die when firing) Although he had Bolt Pistols (Bolters roll on extra die in H2H) and Close Assault Blades (Bolters attack in H2H diagonally, opponent rolls one less die) a series of zeroes left him with some bad guys to take out. This was taken just after my 2nd or 3rd turn, you can see that things are working well for me. After this turn I had cleaned up all but one gretchin and was making my way over to the next board to help out my buddy. Then things started to go bad. I lost my Plasma gun to a Lure Of Chaos (Marine is replaced with a chaos marine) and my rocket launcher soon followed. Then, a re-deploy card allowed the Alien player to redeploy 3 blips onto a board that had already been scanned, so my weakened force was suddenly being stalked by 2 chaos marines and an android. Long story short, I took out one dreadnought and headed for home after scanning only 2 of the 4 boards and without either the primary or secondary missions being claimed. My team mate did the same thing and this is what the board looked like at the end: Us... What we were running from...
