Mr Andyroo's Viral Earth Campaign (D20 Apocalypse Mecha)

mr0andyroo
I am currently running A post Apocalypse Style Campaign Model in a near Future North America. A viral compound has been released via an explosion, causing nearby animals to contract a mutated strain (virus + fusion detonation). Through a brief timeline, the virus sweeps across the continent in less than six months. The towns folk of Elkins WV, protect themselves from the oncoming onslaught. A secondary effect in process (also released from the same lab) is that the rubber that makes up tyres, is eaten away. This makes Ponderous mecha the preferred choice of transport. The mechs run on an internal combustion Engine found in most modern vehicles. (The rubber hoses and seals are coated in a metalic compound to prevent them being eaten away).

A few "house Rules" i have stipulated, all mechs are large, ponderous, and are treated as a vehicle and not an extension of the pilot. The only energy based weapon is a microwave beam gun NO LASERS.

Sounds interesting, nice background story too, I particularly like the reasoning behind why mecha have become a more viable form of transport. I also like that the mecha are slow ponderous machines, this makes the setting feeling more gritty and believable with none of the 'techno-sheek' of the mecha you see in manga films. Why no frikkin' laser beams?

PS since I've been doing a few campaign logos for people recently would you like me to do one for Viral Earth?
