Inked Adventures Hand Drawn Geomorph Tiles

I've finally manged to finish these and get them up to a standard to sell.  Geomorphs are a most curious beast mainly used for planning and inspiration - although I believe that a lot of fun can be had when used in random play.  These are 8 cm across - 6 print to a page.



One plan is to get some pre-printed packs made through Game Crafter.

Geomorphs are strange.  Lots of blogs last year were talking about them, but I suspect the fun with geomorphs is partly that they were easy to draw or fun to shuffle the cards - but I didn't read about many people actually using them during gameplay.  
I've had a couple of people ask me if I can make them larger to work as floor plans ... but the fun with this set is because are such a handy side (8cm sq, x6 to sheet).  Also 10x10in tiles don't fit on an A4 sheet. But, we'll see...

You're welcome dude! Obviously I can guarantee good words for you if you need them! (And you deserve them, because I really like your geomorphs!) But unfortunately I don't know so much channels where I could promote your stuff (you know... TLaTD & BECMI group on facebook), but I will try to do my best with few friends of mine!

Yesterday I thought the same thing, I'd be the third person to suggest you to try! Yes I know... 10x10in tiles don't fit on A4 papers, nor 9x9in and 8x8in format is too small IMO. But It could be pure coolness handling (and using) geomprphs of this size!

Geomorphs are often associated with "megadungeons", but small encounter areas can look good too. :)

Here's another vote for larger tiles. I'm sure people would be happy with 20mm squares... or perhaps people could play on them with epic scale minis like this guy. That'd be pretty cool .

It reminds me I once saw someone make 3D geomorphs for use in Mordheim games. Looked like a lot of fun!

Interesting that you should mention a larger scale.  Pworks make tiles which seem influenced by Space Hulk's wide scale (I say this because one of their packs is very Space Hulk like.  Their fantasy tiles use a 30mm grid - very solid - like WHQ.

I thinking seriously about just making the PNG files available - the original geomorph tiles - for VTT software and  then people can lay them out themselves at whatever scale they desire, provided they have the DTP skills.

These are excellent - I might try using these for a bit of pre-game planning Dungeoneer's Survival Guide (AD&D 2nd) style. From the looks of them most of them can be re-created 'full size' using the regular inch-grid Inked Adventures tiles

As for using them with miniatures - although 20mm squares and the smaller scale mean they are not much use with 28mm scale miniatures, I can see them being used with smaller scale miniatures like RPE's Demon World 15mm fantasy range or Caesar Miniatures's rather nice 1:72 fantasy miniatures

15mm figures would work well, there's a lot of companies making them now as well actually.

Interesting, it was definitely fun drawing caverns for a change. After the larger plans, the geomorphs were very liberating. As with the dungeon parts, the levels of elevation are totally up to the DM, but all of the exits are in the same plane - if that makes sense. The Survival Guide makes you think of caverns in a specialist way.  I reckon most of the cavern sections would benefit from side angle cut away views. I'm glad you feel the art is good enough to scale up.

Funny you should mention 1:72 - I'm pretty sure that there's some micro-scale paper dungeon plans out there.  Curiously, 15mm and smaller seems mainly the domain of army games mostly.

I think these tiles are your best so far Bill. I love these, and the way you can easily create small or huge dungeons! I've been browsing the webstore, and I saw you also have these on larger scale, for tabletop playing, so you can actually play on these maps, instead of only creating a map as a reference for your D&D games. I only wish these were in full colour. I love your style, it reminds me of the old DragonStrike boards, and I do like the look in greyscale, but man, I would really really love these in colour. But I think that's probably not gonna happen, is it? :P

Oooh! I could post a review of your tiles over at the Ye Olde Inn blog! I'm a writer there, and we often talk about stuff that can be used for tabletop miniature gaming, such as miniatures obviously, and maps too! I've printed about 30 tiles, should be enough (can't fit them all on the table, and playing them all would take ages lol).
Now to get some people together to play on them. Oh and I need to cut them this weekend too.

I've recently received a set of Inked Adventures Geomorph Tiles to review on the HQ blog, and I must say, they are amazing! Billiam Babble even promised me a free giveaway set, so we decided to make it a contest.



Read about the tiles on the blog, download the free demo set, and have a go at them. Take some pictures, post about it here (or wherever you wish), link to your pictures and findings over at the blog's comments section in the post, and you will have a chance of getting a free copy of the full set! (please don't distribute them after you downloaded them, Billiam B. puts a lot of work and effort in his tiles, and the tiles are very reasonably priced).

After having played around with these, I had some ideas for a possible future expansion and a few notes for improvement:
- Add some half tiles, with 4 connecting exits, so you can "finish" your dungeon. Perhaps even quarter tiles.
- Make some paper heroes and monsters to populate the dungeons.
- Colour them :P coloured versions of everything would be really awesome.
- The JPG's from the pack were easy to print at the right size on A3 paper (2,5cm x 2,5cm squares) 25x25cm tiles, but at that size, you could see pixels on the prints. The PDF's might be sharper, but I didn't feel like cutting and glueing them all, so I used the JPG's instead. Are those a lower resolution? Otherwise, you might want to up the resolution on the tiles.
