Grey Seer

This is the Grey Seer from the classic Skaven Screaming Bell, which I ordered separately (this was back when GW Mail Order was useful) because it was in a much nicer pose than any of Grey Seers on foot available at the time - also it's a lot nicer miniature than any of the Grey Seers that Citadel have produced since or are ever likely to produce in future.

As some of you who read by posts regularly (well as regularly as can read something so irregularly posted) will know I have a sort of standard way of painting Rat-men which I've been using since the first Skaven I painted, however for this miniature I diverged a little from the usual method because the miniature was going need a slightly different colour scheme from my other Rat-men. You'll also notice it's mounted on a hexagonal base for reasons I've divulged in previous posts.

I can't really be bothered to write about exactly how I painted the Grey Seer, but what I will do is explain a few of the techniques I used which are different from my standard Rat-men scheme.
I started out with my normal browning technique and then began working on the grey fur for which I used a similar technique to that I used on my Reaper Bones Werewolf The for the flesh I wanted a paler shade than my other Rat-men to go with the grey fur so I used Citadel Elf Flesh and P3 Ryn Flesh.
It took quite a bit of tweaking and different mixes to get the flesh looking right, but in the end I got there.
For the robes, I brushed a thin layer of Citadel Camo Green over the browns allowing the shading to show though, I then highlighted the raised areas with more Camo Green and gave it a wash of watered down Citadel Devlan Mud.
The effect on the staff-head, dagger and the clasp on the robes was achieved using P3 Blighted Gold, a wash of Citadel Thrakka Green and a re-highlight with Army Painter Greedy Gold

To add a little touch of extra colour on I painted the decorative skulls on the collar of the robes in reds, this also helped visually tie the Grey Seer to my Ratman Champion on which I did the same for the stylised skulls on the armour.

To cut a long story slightly shorter; I'm rather pleased with this model and maybe I'll write more about it at a later date (but I probably won't)

Really awesome work here. The gold and green cloak go really well together. The red detailing is an awesome popping contrast. The flesh tones are that perfect pinky rat colour...yeah awesome stuff!

I love the sculpting of these older skaven. Jes Godwin stuff as I remember? Something about how he sculpts cloth, especially ragged cloth, is perfect. I've got the on foot Grey Seer Thanquol figure around here somewhere that I want to get some paint on one day. I would dearly love to get my hands on the Plague Lord Skrolk from the same era.
