Greetings...

deadlight
Hey all,

I just thought that I'd let you all know that I'm lurking; I'm an old friend of MortiS-the-Lost, we go right back to school *insert hazy, blurry montage here*

Back in the day (when we were but squeaky little childs) we played a lot of Gorkamorka, 40k and some weird hybrid game involving 40k and WH... we also had a lot of fires, making dinner involved a house-destructive siege on the kitchen and we made films involving air-vents, NASA androids and communist space mice.

Back to the present-day, I'm recently single and have found myself with a lot more free time so getting back into painting and conversion after a few sparse years may well be on the cards. I'm an imperial guard "player" although I generally just paint these days; I've also converted a demonhunter retinue and have made plans for some tasty chaos stuff. From my desk here, I can see an unfinished IG basilisk, some nazis and french troops for a WWII diorama I have planned and an overflowing bits box. We'll see if I have anything to share if I get my ass into gear and start painting again.

I've also got back into D&D recently with some good friends; we're really noobish at the moment, having had our hands held by knowledgeable DMs in the past but we've got a grasp of 4e and now we're less worrying about remembering the basics of the system and are getting a great collaborative RP experience out of it.

I DM'd our last session, which ended up having just two members to the party; this was good for an intimate game with the people I knew the best and felt more comfortable around. By the end of the first session, I was pacing around the room describing the effects of brutal attacks such as the crazy, possessed, apprentice shopkeeper who, whilst bound and leading the party through the woods, bit the throat out of a bear... oh, and the bear was on fire, giving him fire damage. I also kept it light at times in contrast to the dark storyline with very topical Werepigs who infected the players with Swine Fever (the PCs set fire to them with an improvised trap, "The air is filled with a cloying, bacony smoke") and a chest full of bees (A long running joke from when I'm a PC, "Can I check to see if it's full of bees").

The players seemed to like my style of DMing so I'll keep on at it; the next session will be continue to be set in our original world (stealing the best from FR and leaving the crap). We're stuck in the middle of the buildup to a potentially epic war between an oppressive, militaristic, expansionist empire and a loose rabble of free-states so there will be political intrigue, naval battles and some assassinations behind enemy lines.... oh and bees, so many bees. *makes note about suggesting a beehive to the players as an improvised missile weapon*

I'll keep notes next time and write a report.

Other stuff about me:
- I'm a LAMP web developer, working for a magazine company in London.
- My current comedy obsessions are Black Books and Spaced and I'm a big fan of Firefly
- I've been known to dress in a labcoat and goggles in casual situations (or maybe *just* a labcoat at home; form an orderly queue, ladies)
- I love to read: Good SF, Cyberpunk, Steampunk, Victorian/Early C20 SF, a sprinkling of horror, Stephen King deserves his own mention as does the great William Gibson.
- Music: Ska, Dub, pop-punk, ska-punk, classic rock, jazz, geek rock, geek folk, Ukulele led music (I less-than-three Molly Lewis)
- I'm a fan of proper dress and gentlemanly conduct but I also enjoy dressing in combats and a t-shirt and creative swearing; a bit of a mixed bag.
- I'm a closet steampunk but I'm more into letting it subtly influence me in my day-to-day life than dressing up once a year for a con or suchlike. I'm in the market for a good tophat... but then I've also got a soviet gas mask on my shopping list.
- I feel that some of the above geekiness is going to worsen / get more awesome when I move in with my aforementioned D&D buddy later this year (we're already planning the lab and looking for some swords to practice our dueling)
- I make long lists... let me know if I do it too much.

Oh, and finally, you can call me Karl; Deadlight is my long-running pseudonym so that's also fine. I will also answer to the rank of Captain or admiral and feel free to tack on "the right honorable", "his holiness" or "lord" as a prefix, they'll all be acceptable.

Last fact...
- I will sign off with an initial, this will very between a D or a K depending on how I feel (I've signed work emails off with a D to much confusion).

Regards,
              - D

Ha! wooo! Welcome aboard at long last

It's funny I came across some old AVI files the other night and end up showing Axl clips from an old video of Me, You and Alex Darby playing Warhammer Quest or somthing ... ah ... the memories ... I mean Argh! The memories!!  classic times, remember any of this:
- “Undead Irish Eldar?”
- “Arrrgh! Death!”
- “Beard Grooming”

anyway looking forward to seeing some of your more recent stuff and hearing your opinions on the stuff I've been doing.

BTW chest full of bees – awsome! I'm ssoooo using that trap!

So ... why dose my house look like an air-vent?

True, *why* does my house look like an air vent?!

What about "ignoring dead people season" and Alex probably having a bunch of porn in that wheelbarrow...

Oh! and "you film?".

My players were a few bad choices away from being attacked by the one of the worst animals in the D&D multiverse: the noble Owlbear.

It's quite scary that you mention "beard grooming" mere moments after I've been taming my own face-fuzz.
