Ent/Treeman/Treant by Otherworld

Some of you might remember early last year GW released a very disappointing plastic Ent, well Otherworld Miniatures are about to step in and show us how Tree-men should be done!

and here it is, 64mm to the eyes and around 105mm to tops of it's branches this is a huge model and will be on sale next month for just £18.00!

If asked to recommend a Treeman miniature in future I will be recommending this one!

Re: Ent/Treeman/Treant by Otherworld

i must admit, while alot nicer' n the GW one, i don't like the face; to my mind Ents should have bark that looks like a face.. that one looks like plonked on afterwards :(

Re: Ent/Treeman/Treant by Otherworld

I quite like the face, it's human-ish but still retains a lot of gnarled texture. I've got to say that this is very close to how I picture Treebeard when reading LotR - this model would make a great alternative to Treebeard - talking of which lets take a look at Citadel's Treebeard model and some of the other Treemen miniatures available at the moment

^ Citadel's Treebeard RRP £25 (Citadel's Plastic Ent, which I will not despoil this page with a picture of is £20 RRP)

^ Citadel's other offering in this category the Warhammer Treeman at a whopping £30 RRP and not a particularly nice model IMHO

^ Reaper's Mossbeard, a little cartoon-y for my taste

^ and another from Reaper - Spirit of the Forest, this one has a kind of World of Warcraft look to it, not my first choice of how a Treeman should look but I quite like it

Yea the Reaper 'Spirit of the Forest' is certainly the most brutal and intimidating  Treeman mini

both the Dark Sphere and Impact! models remind me of Black Tree Design's 3 Treemen

^ Cedarbaroom Treeman

^ Oakmas Treeman

^ Redwood Treeman

Not the best Treemen out there but with being priced at a little over £6 each they are probably the cheapest

Black Tree also do these 'Entlings' which closely resemble Citadel's older Dryad minis (I prefer Citadel's newer more feminine Dryads myself)

and as I seem to be going off on a little tangent away from Treemen towards Tree-creatures in general ...

^ the awesome Living Elemental and Woodgolem from Ral Partha Europe's MageKnight Metal range, both a little small to use as Treemen but would make great alternative Tree-Kin

^ Demon Tree, also from Ral Partha Europe from their Heroes and Horrors range

^ One final offering from RP: Deadwood from the 'Assorted Weirdos' part of the Fantasy Armies range

the above 2 are more akin to the demonic trees seen in the Evil Dead movies than to anything you'd expect to see in a Woodelf army - but that makes them great for horror games and they could also be used to represent the rules for tainted woodland in the new Warhammer Rulebook

hmm this thread is turning into a really good comparison/resource thread. We should definitely do more of these on other subjects.

Personally I still like the Otherworld mini that Mortis posted if its being used as an ent, they need to be imposingly big and tree-sized and I quite like the sculpting style other than the face which is a little off but bearable. And for £18 its very cheap for such a huge model.

I would however quite like to get hold of one of the Impact Deadwoods to use as some kind of horribly wrong necromantic tree/bone construct. But at £13 its low on the list.

Otherworld also do a 'shambling mound' Which is more a bushman than a treeman but its still in the vein of living vegitation:

45mm tall, £12.

Agreed, anyone willing to start the next one? or at least have a subject in mind?

Shambling Mounds I see as being more akin to Fenbeasts, but that's for another thread I think ...

Col. Marbles Miniature Showcase is a good place to start... maybe by updating stuff they're missing? so many manufacturers about these days :)

yea Colonel Marbles was a pretty good resource for that sort of thing, it's a shame it's been dead for years and lots of manufactures have come and gone in the mean time.

So the question is what do members of The Lost and the Damned Forum want to see/make lists of alternative miniatures for?

Night / Dark elves? would suit the release of Dark Eldar well (they'd make fine Dark Elves!)

Seems reasonable - Dark Elves it is!

I'll get on to in the week, unless of course someone else gets to starting the thread first ...

Another different looking, but rather expensive addition to our line up of Treemen types

 ^Ultraforge's Tree Lord

^and the same miniature again with a different paint job for a more evil look

Doesn't the Ultraforge Tree Lord with the green stuff on him look like broccoli!!  lol

I really like the Reaper one though, may look to getting one of those.  My wood elf force is ever expanding!  You're right through mort it does look at bit world of warcrafty which is good for me as I really enjoy the game.

Excellent, as you might have guessed I had no luck tracking it down (I thought it might have been a Grim Reaper Castings model)

I quite like the face of that one, it reminds me of the Green Man, so I'd say it's pretty perfect o-o
