As time's gone by and a lot of Mordheim's been played once thing rose to my attention:
Dwarf Slayers are "too soft". That is, they die very easily (much to their own delight, I'd assume) to the point where they guy playing dwarves simply says "I won't buy them. They cost too much and die too easily." He instead simply hopes he gets a "That Lad's got Talent"-result on a Henchman of any kind rather than spending his hard earned GC's in purchasing another Slayer that dies before he's got time to get anywhere near surviving quality. This is not a Good Thing since Dwarves are difficult to play as it is. A spontaneous idea rose to my mind: A Dwarf Warband Leader who's lost a Slayer in a game is allowed to roll a Leadership-test. If he succeeds, the reputation of the lethality of his missions has reached the Slayer Community (such as it is) and the player gets to purchase a new Slayer at a reduced cost. (-10/20 GC? Half Price?). How do you guys feel about that? |

speaking purely as some one who is on the reciving end of troll slayer attacks and having lost many monsters and hero's (3 trolls in a row at one point thanks to Rob's Troll Slayer ) to these little red haired bastards I'd say they don't die easily if at all!
on a more balanced note, I don't think players should be rewarded for having their troops die (even ones with death wishes) how ever this is a pretty good idea, that just need a few minor tweeks, my main thought is that you should only get the chance if the Troll Slayer dies an honorable death (after all a Troll Slayer shot in the back by a Goblin is not going to have heroic tales told about him) so here's my suggestions - the roll should be made based on rolling under the Dead Slayer's EXP on D100 - the roll should only be made if the Slayer was put out of action in Close Combat againt a miniature with the 'Large Target' rule or a Hero -the roll can only be made directly after the game in which the slayer died - GM's may make exceptions of this and modifi the roll (eg if the Slayer was out numbered 10-1) - The reduction should be D6+2 - this should only work for Troll Slayer Heroes (Troll Slayer Hired Swords are already the cheapest in the game)

Yeah, the Honorable Death-prerequisite makes sense.
And, yeah, the Hired Sword will have to stick with what it's got. Tanks. I'll mull over this for a while now. |

Well, Hans, the guy who plays Dwarves in our campaign plays really sneaky. Hiding, using cover almost pathologically and generally avoiding any form of combat if the missions allow it. All in order to preserve his strength and scrape up a few more GC's to be able to actually replace any losses or expand the Warband at all.
He swears by Beardlings by the way, since they are the cheapest minions. Also: Crossbows are the way to go. |
Cheers mate i made abit warband on paper last night it goes as follows
Dwarf Noble gromril armour dwarf axe and helmet + shield. Dwarf Engineer with heavy armour crossbow and dwarf axe + helmet. Thunderer axe and crossbow. 3 x beardlings axe and daggers. 6 in total including only 2 heros, after a few scapes i hope to get a dwarf troll slayer. Im considering to scrape the helmets and 1 dwarf axe to get an extra beardling or hired sword troll slayer. Game on
