Dungeons and Dragons and Saturday Mornings...

Anyone remember waking up way before anyone else was awake Saturday morning?  Rushing to the kitchen to grab a bowl of your favorite cereal and then rushing out to the living room for Saturday morning cartoons...and your all time favorite Dungeons and Dragons.  Dungeon Master and his mysterious riddles, Hank the ranger, Eric the Cavalier, Bobby the barbarian, Diana the acrobat, Sheila the thief and of course little ol' Uni the unicorn.  Ahhh...good times, good times...

I missed that cartoon, so when I found it on Walmart website for five bucks I just had to buy it.  I just finished watching the first 9 episodes this morning.  Tomorrow will probably be another 9.  Man...I wonder why they stopped making that cartoon.

Most 80's cartoons had an annoying animal side kick (Snarf in Thunder Cats, ect) and the D&D cartoon was no different. Looking back on it now it seems a lot more a generic fantasy cartoon and little to do with D&D.

You might be interested to know that a few years ago WotC made a supplement for 3rd/3.5 based on the cartoon

May I remind everyone that Dungeons and Dragons was a *fair ride*.  :D
I'd spent a year or so defending and explaining D&D to friends and relatives and then WHAM people suddenly think that I'm talking about the cartoon.
In one games group it was a running joke to look around and say "Dungeon Master?  ... He's gone."

I did guiltily check it out a few times, just to see if there were any in-game references.  

As an introduction to the game franchise  it struck me as very strange that  some of the character classes were from Unearthed Arcana - so this was AD&D plus supplements.  Acrobat, cavalier ... TSR was trying plug the extra rules from the advanced game to pre-gaming age audience.  Much strangeness.  

My therapy is ongoing - the new D&D movies will go without mention. ;)

All this aside, I'm sure I'd probably really enjoy them now.

I remember that show!   Was amazing, used to sneak up early in the morning to watch it.  

Never knew much about actual D&D until later in life so at the time could watch it in all innocence.  Now looking back it was kinda like a big advert for D&D!

Not that I can blame the show for this, it was big business at the time to have cartoons for your toys, He-man and Transformers for example.

Still made for a good 20mins of peace hidden in my room!
