Cool, I'll get onto finding those D&D symbol fonts again and up load them here

Thanks for the useful PC tip Mortis. The ctrl-left click for back cycling is good stuff as well
Sorry, just in case I caused any confusion with what I can now see might have been a poor choice of wording in my first post: the [Ctrl] + left-click thing was not a suggested change, it already works that way

SamuelF wrote
The dashed borders that you suggest could perhaps be linked in with a 'dressings' mode that could have stairs etc? I'll think on that a little more as well..
Sounds good, it makes sense that the Stairs would need a click-cycle set-up so they can point in the required direction, can I also suggest arrows on click-cycle in the Dressing Mode.
Again I offer my graphic-making services should you need them.

Thanks for the positive response chaps!
Thanks for the awesome dungeon design program

You may have covered this already but is there a way of importing pixel tiles - or vector - I could make some, if you're not already doing that yourself.
Were you thinking of art for tiles / dungeon dressings or something completely other? It could be very interesting. I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment with other projects though, so don't feel pressured or anything matey
Loving the door and rotating walls feature by the way!  Really nice work.

The generator currently has a sort of Rogue/Nethack style charm  it would be a shame to ruin that.
... But ... if you fancy some pixel graphics I could make a few (based on my hand drawn style tiles but different - retro graphics? *grins*) - I was initially thinking just tiles and doors, but some tile scenery, traps, fountains, chests  - wood squares for tables etc.  The question is what you feel would be easier to use with Flash - perhaps some vector graphics (something created in Inkscape ) would keep the memory size down - although I've had more practice with pixels.  I think pixel squares 25px (or smaller) perhaps.  Maybe I could just make some make some grey-biege floor tiles first - you can incorporate those whilst keeping the annotated text for other features.  Can you use png files in the generator?
I can't guarantee when I can get stuff done, but a few elements can definitely between snuck in between all my other (terribly important ;) ) projects.

While I like the pixel-work tiles (they remind me of old games on the PC and Atari ST like Gauntlet and Fatal Labyrinth ) I'm in favour of keeping the dungeon generator in black and white, it looks very similar to the maps in our BECM books and with a few symbols added from a dungeon-mapping symbol font it will be even closer. I envision people using screen shots from this (plus some text) to write adventures and as such I think a classic D&D style black and white map is more appropriate.
IMHO a dungeon map should look like it's come out of an old D&D book and not like a screen-shot from an old (albeit awesome) computer game and if Sam does go ahead with the colour graphics I'd like the option to turn them off or have a Colour/Classic mode switch

Cheers mate!

I think you may be right about the "rogue charm", but I went ahead and made a simple version of my generator to test the tiles you made anyway. I enlarged the grid from 20px tiles to 25px to accommodate the new graphics.

Here are some results:

Graphics for traps, tables, chests, etc... might be more desirable. I've tried looking for dungeon map/symbol fonts, but haven't managed to find anything good yet. I'm thinking Mortis may have more to say on this matter .

Over and out.

Got in before me!

I think you'd probably guess from my previous post that I'd agree with you here (as much as I would like to make use of the talented Mr Babble).

Ok so I spent most the afternoon since my last post hunting around for D&D symbol fonts, there are a few out there, but none are exactly what we need ...

Most turned out to be Geomorphs of dungeon sections (we've already got the walls bit covered)
http://www.fontspace.com/dingbat-dungeon

Others turned out to be combat symbols from D&D 4th
www.mad-irishman.net

and the most promising looking one turned out not to be free (1 I don't want to pay for fonts, 2 it would probably cause licensing issues) and it still might turn out to be not quite what we need
http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/fonts.htm

So I have endeavoured to create not 1, but 2 fonts for this project (and for the dungeon gaming community as a whole – especially you guys here on tLatD). The first will be a set of basic dungeon mapping symbols based on the Dungeon Map Key found on the inside cover of the BECM Dungeon Masters Rulebook, while the 2nd will be based on the HeroQuest map symbols (plus maybe a few from DragonStrike and the D&D board game if there is room). I have never made fonts before so I have no idea how long it will take or exactly what's involved, but it can't be any harder than making Quake levels or using Photoshop ...

well I'm off to create the artwork needed and learn how to use a font editor!

Ooooooooh!

Those are looking really good Mortis!

I like the monster fonts. They have a HeroQuesty charm

How do they look when they scale down? Do they have an optimum size?

Keep up the excellent work mate!

Dungeon symbols are quite simple and scale down easily, the HeroQuest based one works best at at-least 16 upward and because of the constraints of the font format some symbols need to used at a larger size to keep them in scale.

The Dungeon Symbols font should work perfectly with the dungeon generator once finished, the HeroQuest based one is turning more into a useful novelty font (windings for dungeons lol) and would be hard to implement in a piece of software (due to needed rotation and resizing when adding them to maps), however it should still prove useful to people manually making maps in Photo-shop or PSP, ect.

argh!  I got really delayed on this project, computer problems, then going on holiday, meeting my Girlfriend, then financial troubles ... so sadly I haven't made any progress yet, but I'm finally sorting things out so you can expect something sooner or later

Here are links to two similar projects proposed on Facebook for your perusal ~ ideas exchange.
I have no program skills and am highly impressed by your project!

3 x 3 Cards rpg

Text Based Adventure Creator

How easy would it be for the finished product to have a facility whereby .jpeg files can be uploaded, trimmed, and used as dungeon floor designs and other purposes (walls, item cards, etc) ?

Very excited fan new to this site :)

No worries dude. I haven't have the time or headspace required to get into any serious code writing at all!

Hi Gamekeeper. Sorry for the late reply on this one. Thanks for the kind words!  Unfortunately, as mentioned above, I haven't worked on this project for a while now..

Unless anyone desperately wants some changes to the generator, I'm happy with it "as is" for the time being
