Hey look - Mort posting something in the Sci-fi section!
I've been working on some
Sci-fi Floor Pieces for
Tabletop Towns recently and I discovered I needed some Sci-fi miniatures to take some photos of the prototype pieces with. This was the perfect excuse to paint some more Daleks to go with the Dalek Commander I painted back in 2012 - it needed some minions after all!
Thanks to buying the Doctor Who Adventures magazine each time I saw it was giving away more Daleks (some times multiple copies of the same issue) I have quite a lot of these figures now, so I grabbed a handful and began work. An important thing to do before painting (which I didn't do last time) was to carefully pry the Daleks apart to make cleaning off the mold-lines easier. I then glued them back together with Liquid Plastic Glue and once it had set used more of the same glue to fill the joins around the front panel of the skirt (which are clearly visible on the original Dalek I painted)
The colour scheme I used for these Daleks is based on their powder-blue, grey and silver appearance in the early days of Doctor Who, but most closely resembles the colour scheme seen on the common Daleks in the ‘Daleks - Invasion Earth: 2150AD’ Movie which starred Peter Cushing as The Doctor. Although I did the dome-lights in orange to match my already painted 'Dalek commander'.
I batched painted the new Daleks all at the same time - painting was strait forward even though painting the all the little hemispheres was rather tedious.
I started out by painting the dome, collar and skirt Citadel Codex Grey and then highlighted this with Citadel Fortress Grey.
I then painted the shoulders, gun, arm, eye stalk and the 'door' of the rear panel with P3 Pig Iron.
Next I painted the fender, rear panel, neck rings, plunger and eye ball with a mixture of P3 Iron Hull Grey and Army Painter Matt Black and shaded it with a wash of Army Painter Dark Tone Ink.
I used Citadel Badab Black Wash to wash the metal areas and then to black-line around the grey areas.
The hemispheres were picked out with a thin layer of Citadel Hideous Blue which allowed the grey shading beneath to stand out and finally I painted the dome-lights Citadel Fiery Orange highlighted with a mixture of Citadel Badmoon Yellow and Fiery Orange.

I consider these Daleks, the way I've painted them, to be a fair compromise between 'classic' and 'new paradigm' Daleks - In fact I think they look like a cross between the 'Movie Daleks' and the original 'new paradigm' concept art by Peter McKinistry.Did anyone say 'bonus pictures'? - I'm sure no one did, but here's some anyway

Having said that as soon as I can find a suitable weapon I'll be looking to convert a Special Weapon Dalek as seen in the Sylvester McCoy episode 'Remembrance of the Daleks’ and a while back I did promise some people on FaceBook that I'd see about building a 28mm scale version of
