i fear he likes the same shit i do im like... a geek and stuff. i like Star Wars and Star Trek... i used to post on the ebaum forum till i pissed eric off, i love odd tOdd, i read L ron hubbard. once in a resturant in Cleethorpes a guy threw his food all over in a rage and i said, outloud, "Looks like he don't like the cornbread either" * thats how geeky i am. but when it comes to wargaming in pretty catholic in my tastes (note the small C- im not talking about loving a jew onna stick here...) and i only really like 40k. i sort of respect Fantasy Battle but LotR is just static noise... come and play lord of the rings with us Biakal... for ever and ever and ever.... and i really hope its not my age. there is evidence everywhere that i might be turning into an old fart... 1. old age geeks tend to move in to Historical. I chose IG because i liked the contemporary feel and modern looks 2. i think the magic phase is a bit childish and deus ex machina 3. i have a jaguar x-type and a minor from 1963 4. i genuinely believe my dice box makes women wet 5. i dislike deamons and monstorous creatures beacuse i think they are too WHFB (see 2 above) 6. WD seems to be aimed at people with the reading age of the average ITV viewer Benny loves WD and thinks "Andy Hall is like, dead good at words and stuff" 7. MY fluff seems as good as, if not better than their fluff. not in an arrogant way either... like, REALLY 8. how fucking awesome was Napolean? 9. I had more fun at partizan than FW open day 10. "eeeee! have you seen these prices!!! it wern't like that in my day!" But even if Xenu IS pushing me towards flames of war or roman legions or some other wank there is a slight speed bump. I don't fancy it. I like lasers... space ships, fucking "dakka wiv eks-tra choppy". I dont like SM. i dont think as any kind of fighting force they make any sense. i think they come over as a bit childish. but i like orks... i like the fact they are sort of funny but will also stab you to fuck just for the hell of it. i like the eldar hit and run, fast 'n' sleek asthetic. I also like the fact they bummed each other so much they actually made a hole in space-time when they should have been fighting necrons (true story). i like the look of the Tau and the way they sit between Eldar and IG. i really quite like the whole horus heresy vibe with the whole dark powers thing... but i also feel chaos are gay and people who play with them just fear to loose. Even Benny could win with Chaos. i cant see how they are fun to fight agaist or to play with. I like all that. i even like the kroot and think they could have their own codex if they tried hard enough. but the time i throw at 40k is getting smaller and smaller. for quite a few reasons. minor: iv got a few other hobbies, not least a 47 year old car minor: iv sort of got into magic major: i couldbnt win against fucking Benny recently. im not an overly bad loser but im getting tabled every game major: they are pricing me out. not "literally" (but they are close) but but more in a percieved value for money way. i dont feel like i have done the right thing when i buy anything anymore. Im thinking more and more not "should i save that money" more "i could buy some other stuff with that...a shirt or a video game or a hooker" it is a sad world indeed my friends when for the price of three sentinels or a land raider and a metal mini you can get a lady to do rude things to your cock. seriously. i have ordered the Manticore where i get 10% off... but as soon as i did i regretted it. Now i really want that model, cos i think it looks boss-cool... but when im getting nervous about even buying stuff cheap im concerned. Tyrell got bored with waiting for DE and went back to playing chess with a wrinkly nonce... he ended up with an eye out maybe the light that burns twice as bright DOES last half as long... and my hobby geekness has burned oh so very brightly. but im hoping for another option...this one linked to the fact its high summer right now 40k is now a winter sport...I hope The lucky little cunt *if you dont get this your not a geek

It strikes me that a lot of the things you don't like about 40k are in fact the things that make 40k unique (Don't get me wrong I dislike Spacemarines in the recent additions as much as anyone, but they are an integral part of the background along with Chaos and Deamons ect, I'd like to see SM forces back how they were in the days of RT) and the things you like you could get from another game. and of course anyone who has the slightest idea about value for money can see GW's prices are predendous.
It's just a thought, but maybe it's time you moved on from 40k, it's a big leap to make but if you enjoy the hobby you'll find it's worth it. Your not necessarily being forced onto Historical either, 40k isn't the only game you could get what you want out of. Most (if not all) Sci-games have an IG equivalent and most have other factions/races similar to Tau, Eldar and Orks, ect (It's just 40k that has Spacemarines). It's a disease of the average person you'll meet in a GW store (especially the staff) that they can't see the wider world of wargaming out side of GW, but talk to the people you game with regularly see how they feel about it all and look for alternatives to GW. (hell you've also got a whole forum here) Gamers are suckled at the teat of GW's heaving bussoms and many carry on even after they've realised how hollow and plastic they are ... I'm getting to point in this post now were I'm about to compare GW to some ageing actress desperately trying not to loose her looks and I've lost sight of my point, which I think was people need to be weened off GW and explore the hobby as a whole. In the late 80's and early 90's GW was a sexy actress in her prime years, but now 20 years on from her best work, time and plastic surgery have taken their toll, she may still look attractive from a distance, but she's become a high maintenance bitch. She's air brushed in every photo and those things that made her so attractive back then are now mostly plastic that doesn't quite look right or live up to how they used to be. Maybe it's time to look at some one a little younger and up coming who hasn't yet (and hopefully won't) let success go to their head. (Heh! If I could think of a actress who's carrier spans the same time period as Games Workshop's history and also had the initials GW this analogy would be perfect) Ok I've got that analogy out of my system now ... back to the topic Yea try some of the other sci-fi games, talk to the people you game with and see what else they play and if they only play 40k see if you can spark some interest in other games, there quite a few out there. I will now try to recommend (off the top of my head) a few alternative Sci fi war games that will give you all the lasers, space ships and aliens you like Kryomek Contemporary looking military types verses Xenomorphs, it's like the Aliens films as wargame Some of the best priced figures in the industry plus kick-ass resin terrain, vehicle kits and large monsters. If nothing else a great source of stuff for IG and 'nid players. http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Products/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3&zenid=0a736a4ded104a17993df6a792a6dcbb No Limits no, no, no, no, no, no please try and put that early 90's dance song out of your head and concentrate. No Limits is deliberately designed with veteran players in mind, it's a war game were you can use all those old troop types and vehicles that have disappeared from the newer rulebooks. What's more the rulebooks are free to download! http://www.wargamesunlimited.net/nolimits/ Combat Zone a very reasonably priced sci-fi game from the people at EM4, I don't know much about it, but you can download a free play-test book there are plenty of other games out there besides, so check them out! PS. how can you play MTG and yet think the magic in WFB is a bit deus ex machina?
