COMMENT: "leaked" 6th edition rules for Warhammer 40k

General Biakal

a document exists on the internet.

if you can find it.

legend has it that it is INDEED a very rough draft of Warhammer 40k 6th edition.

as of time of writing GW have not claimed any ownership, therefore its existence is a schrodinger's cat... it MAY be an actual leak, or it may be one speccy nerds part time project. or both. it is a descision i leave to you. BUT it IS in a very GW "house" style and it is indeed a viable gaming rule set. so make of that what you will. I do also know the main 40k forums are literally shitting bricks- Bell of Lost Souls has unleashed the banhammer and warseer seems eerily quiet on the matter. i know one thing: im not posting the cunt here for a million quid and sex.

i have read it... mostly. It has not all registered but the gist of it seems to be, "the same but better". the same as in the core rules seem essentially unchanged in many areas. But dont go thinking tis is the 5.5 i spoke about in other posts... shotting is very different. The turn is different... there are many tweaks and fiddly bits. it also seems to include apocalypse and planetstrike and every other expansion. vehicles can shoot at different targets, squad leaders are much more important, dogs and cats living together... you get the picture.

it is also accompanied by a mini FAQ for each army- mostly not important but there are some surprises in it too. but this is an unfinished product, full of typos and general errors, and lacking photos.

my gut feeling is this is an early draft offered internally for playtesting. find it, read it, see what you think.

then discuss it below.

Ok first thing I've noticed is that shooting 'to hit' is no longer based just on the BS of the model, its now against the Evasion Value (EV) of a model, which is interesting, and changes depending on how its moved and a bunch of other stuff.

Instant Death has been reworked at lot, no more one hitting Tyranids

Vehicles shooting has been changed once again with a new stat to say how many weapons they can fire (or use one of these 'shots' to target another target), Though these stats don't seem to be included for any armies. I preferred the 4th edition rules where anything str 5 or bellow could always fire personally.

I think it's aliens.

First they'll stir up the wargamers, have them all kill one another amongst a flurry of rumour flame wars.
That way, who's going to remain, to have the know-how to fight aliens?
Mankinds first mistake; Questioning why those around him, are dying.

are you telling me GW is run by the space Lizard people David Icke is so afraid of?

my thoughts on this:

it is a draft (obviously)
it is for internal playtesting
at no point on it does it say it is an actual GW publication or is indeed 6th ed.
if GW jump on it then hints to me that it is real and leaked my a disgruntled employee or ex-employee
i think if GW start throwing litigation out over this, then it turns ou it was a planned "tease" they might leave themselves open.
if it IS fake, that person needs a job somewhere in wargaming as it is pretty workable.

my initial thoughts on the rules:
the shooting thing is a bit... dunno. i always hated the idea of a guardsman missing a fucking huge tank three feet from him. but i would prefer it to be done with modifyiers, not this gay Evade rule.

BECAUSE YOU JUST KNOW MATT WARD WILL GIVE EVERY MARINE AN EVADE FACTOR OF A MILLION BECAUSE HE JUST FUCKING CAN

the rest of it, well, i pretty much like the idea of flamers hitting units in a transport, but i have to admit i had just got very comfy with the move-shoot-assault mechanic. move-assault-shoot if you can is a bit erk for me.

i look forward to younger and wiser heads to go through the "rules" with a comb and post an in depth, clever analysis. then compare it to Mantic

just as an aside, i have just noticed, on page 66

"of course your models are made of resin or plastic"

if this WAS written in may last year, that was well before finewank
AND

on page 70

note to existing players
Veterans of previous Warhammer 40,000 editions
are familiar with another method of calculating
the score you need to hit: subtracting the BS of
the shooter from 7. You can use this method and
apply the Evasion value modifiers directly to the
result. The number you need to hit cannot get
better than 2 or worse than 6, though.
For example, a Space Marine with Ballistic Skill 4
needs a 3 or more on a D6 to hit (7-4=3) by this
method. When the Space Marine is firing on a
moving Necron Catacomb Command Barge, you
need to apply the modifier for a moving unit with
jink (+1). The Space Marine needs a 4 or more on
a D6 to hit (3+1=4).

. also, so another sign of its validity?
