It's interesting to note how scale has changed too.

The spiked club bit was taken from a black orc plastic mini.

And it fit in nicely with what is supposedly a Large Monster in the olden days.

Yea scale creep is an interesting phenomena.
Some times it can be frustrating, like with my old Citadel AD&D character miniatures, some of which 'scale up' to be around 4' 6" high compared to newer miniatures which tend to 'scale up' to being around 5' 9" to 6' 2" (using the assumed scale of 1" on the table top = 5' in life)

Some companies like Ral Partha and Reaper seem to be very hit-and-miss with their scale even with in contemporary ranges.

Most of the time you can get away with it by sticking a miniature on an extra thick base (I find sticking models with integral bases on top of slotter bases works quite well) and of course in life people are all different heights, but with some models (like what is supposed to be 6' 5" muscle-bound Conan type, but 'scales up' being 5' 1') it just looks silly

but there are advantages to it as well - for instance I use my newer, larger Orcs as Black Orcs and BigUns along side my older, smaller Citadel C series Orcs.
Also some of the newer plastic Orc parts match up well with my HeroQuest Ogres providing me with nice weapon swaps like you have done.

On the same note I've recently got hold of a classic RoC era Greater Demon of Nurgle - he's a bit smaller than my late 90's Great Unclean one, so I'm going to use it to represent a Daemon Prince of Nurgle ...
