Blastwalls and Other Bits

These terrain pieces (which you might have already seen along side my painted Dalek) are from  Ainsty Castings and were kindly given to my gaming group by the foul-mouthed but loveable General Biakal. Now only a few weeks after receiving them I've finished painting them (which is probably a record for me!). Here's some more pictures of the terrain pieces and some rambling text about how I painted them ...

The Walls
The walls are from Ainsty's 'Blastwall' range, we ended up with 4 '12cm Blastwall' sections, 4 '3cm x 3cm Blastwall Outside Corner' pieces, 1 '9cm Blastwall with Door' and 1 '9cm Blastwall with Window' – as you can see this is just enough bits to make a fairly substantially sized building.
As the wall will mainly be used in Messy's Fallout games I opted to paint them as old concrete with some rusting metal parts.

The paint job was a simple yet effective affair, I started out with heavy drybrush of Formula P3 Iron Hull Grey, then Citadel Codex Grey followed by Citadel Fortress Grey – a final extreme highlight of Citadel Bleached Bone mixed with  Fortress Grey was dry brushed lightly on the edges. The parts I'd decided were going to be metal then got a thinned coat of Citadel Boltgun Metal followed by a wash of Delvian Mud to give a dull worn look to the metal. To stop the wall from looking too grey I painted the pipes/cables/whatever they are red, green and blue. I think I used Formula P3 Skorne Red, Citadel Emerald Green and Citadel Enchanted Blue respectively, painting them on in the thin layer so the shading of the grey underneath was carried though, I then black-lined the gap between the pipes with Badab Black.
2 of the wall have markings on the outside; one says “GB” and the other “65” - I painted these using stencils I made by printing them in an appropriate font on to card and then painstakingly cutting out the letters/numbers. I applied the paint through the stencil using a piece of packing foam as a sponge and then by normal dry-brushing – I did this in 2 layers, one of Citadel Bleached Bone and one of the shiny 'Undercoat White' that used to some come in the starter sets (thanks Cat!) this gave the effect of old, worn, fading, paint. The “GB” of course stands for 'General Biakal' and the “65” is a reference to his NFL pro number from the 2011 draft … I'll confess I don't quite know what that means … but it's the number he chose for his dice cufflinks (a 6 and a 5 on 2D6) … anyway it's a number associated with General Biakal, so I painted it on the wall. The final stage on painting was to add stains and weathering using various brown washes.
I added 'glass' into the window section made from stiff transparent plastic cut from a clam pack that I think contained a memory card.
The various warning signs you see on the wall are from Hasslefree's 'Architectural Stickers' range (Cat got a sample sheet free with an order and this seemed an ideal use for them)

The Computer
The computer is a 'Control Station' from Ainsty's 'Base Camp' range – I started with a base coat of Formula P3 Battledress Green which I highlighted with a dry-brushing of Citadel Camo Green mixed with  Battledress Green and then shaded with Citadel Delvian Mud Wash. I then gave the unit it's worn look with a dry-brushing of Tinbitz followed by Boltgun metal (I believe General Biakal uses a similar method on his tanks). The screens received a coat of Citadel Darkangels Green  which was shaded towards the edges with Badab Black before the screen text, ect was added using Citadel Scorpion Green (quick tip here – I used cheap brush that had split and frayed a little, which allowed me to do several lines at once).
The buttons were painted Citadel Blood Red, Enchanted Blue and Badmoon Yellow, in a thin layer allowing the highlights and shading from below to show through.

I'm sure I'll add some more pictures to this thread later

Re: Blastwalls and Other Bits

They're light, but not light enough to get shifted about a table by mild bumps.

as far as I can work out, in College American Football you are given a number, and that is your NUMBER for your playing career. as there is a fixed number of players in the NFL.

on the Draft, the college players are picked by the pro teams, but to keep it fair and balanced the worst team gets to pick the new players FIRST.

I THINK- maybe some of our americaan menbers caan explain better?
