BLUEHOLME Prentice Rules: A Holmes Simulacrum

Dreamscape Design
I hope no-one minds me plugging my first foray into the original edition simulacrum field. I've just finished the BLUEHOLME Prentice Rules, a 1st through 3rd level simulacrum of the Holmes Basic rules. The PDF is available (for free) from DTRPG and RPGNow. Please check it out and let me have your feedback.

My Compliments and my Congratulations.
This is really a good job! This stuff really reminds the Holmes edition, but it seems even more playable!

I tried to write my own AD&D-like game, with my home rules, modifications and approach... and I realized how hard is to write an entire handbook! I'm sure I will never finish it!

Happy that you like it! There is now a free introductory adventure to go with it, the Maze of Nuromen: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/110292/BLUEHOLME-The-Maze-of-Nuromen

Writing it wasn't so hard - unravelling some of Holmes's musings (TSR-edited) was the tricky bit. While Holmes is a unique bit of D&D in-between-editions, it was never that easy to follow for beginners - although probably immeasurably more so than the 3 little brown books and the Greyhawk supplement on which it was based. The confusing AD&D references shoehorned in later made it even more confusing.

This project actually started out as a compilation of Holmes errata, but it got totally out of hand. Eventually I thought, hey, why not go all the way and retro-clone this thing so everything is in the right order, in the right place. I hope I've succeeded.

The blue book was essential to understanding AD&D. Until a few years ago I thought the blue book was an introduction to AD&D and not a different version of D&D. Fortunately for me I read the blue book first and the AD&D stuff made sense. The DMs guide in particular was pretty much incomprehensible on its own. As for the brown books I can't see how anyone could play D&D after reading them unless you had been shown how to play by someone else who knew what to do. I've downloaded Blueholme and its on my list of things to read.

Well, I'm glad to see that reception of Blueholme around the intertubes seems to be pretty good - I've posted some links to blog reviews on my site:

Thanks, although I already know about Zach's site (he also has a blog). He was one of the inspirations for starting on this project in the first place.

I really like what I've read of the Blueholme rules (blog post).  Still haven't gotten around to catching up with all of the rest of the stuff, but I generally approve! :)

I'm glad you approve! Luckily it's another fine day here for working on the Compleat Rules, so I hope the commissioning of interior artwork won't be too many months in the future.

Thanks to Zenopus's revelations from the Holmes Manuscript, as well as prodding from various quarters, I've decided to expand the list of character classes available to players in the BLUEHOLME™ Compleat Rules:

Time for an update! The updated Prentice Rules, that is. Errata incorporated, rules ambiguities ironed out, and compatibility with future Compleat Rules ensured.

Oh, and a swish new cover.
